Preservationists in OTR Win: 1323 Republic will stay for now.

A request by Northpoint to demolish the building at 1323 Republic to construct a temporary Parking lot was denied by the Historic Conservation Board on Monday , IN SPITE, of its recommendation by Caroline Kellam City Planner and approval by Larry Harris the Urban Conservator. The staff recommendation was that this would have been an "allowable loss'.
A temporary parking lot was proposed for 1323 Republic Street because within the next year 3CDC will be constructing a 225-space parking garage in the 1300 block of Vine Street, which will serve the larger Mercer Commons project and the Parvis Lofts on Vine. Once the parking garage is complete the 18-space parking lot on Republic Street would no longer be needed. The developer then proposed to construct a three and a half story residential building at 1323-1327 Republic Street site.

So at least for the moment the structure at 1323 Republic will stand.
