This begins a new periodic series on my Blog. Cincinnati has some of the best values in terms of its historic architecture. Before we got our home at a "bargain price" we looked at dozens, made offers on some and even had a couple of deals fall through for various reasons, but we kept at it until we found our own "Preservation Bargain". Since my Blog is read by "old house people" from all across the country and the world, I thought this might provide a good forum to "save" some of these homes from the fate of being turned into Section 8 rentals.
Now many the homes that will be featured are not for the "faint hearted". These are homes that will require hard work, lots of money, but in the end should result in a rare one of a kind historic home. Home are chosen by me based on architectural interest, historic features or home that may have been 'remuddled" into apartments that could be converted back to the grand home they once were. In many cases these are in 'emerging' neighborhoods and one may truly be an urban pioneer, but in most Case we are talking about buying a house for less than most pay for a good used car!
Today's example: 2201 Kemper (Status PENDING) : This home was on the market this summer (pre foreclosure) in the 40K range. 6 bedroom brick with turret, this once grand mansion was converted at some point to 3 apartments. Home was offered after foreclosure for only 4900! and was on the Cincinnati MLS for only 4 days before it went pending. Needs a ton of work but imagine what it would look like done!
