The Delta Queen has been nominated for listing on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 2009 group of 11 "most-endangered places."
The National Trust list comes out in April of each year. The Delta Queen was nominated by Kentucky preservationist and National Trust member Donald E. Clare Jr. who submitted a letter endorsing the boat as one of this year's nominees.
Last Year the Delta Queen lost its U.S. Coast Guard exemption to carry overnight passengers because, with a wooden superstructure, it violated provisions of the Safety of Life at Sea Act.
There is a group of supporters who are attempting to retsore the overnight passenger exemption. This group is known as " The Save the Delta Queen Campaign", and is based in Cincinnati the group maintains the safety act was never intended to be applied to riverboats.

The Delta Queen has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1970 and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1989. It is currently docked at New Orleans.
Advocates of the overnight reinstatement are looking to congress or perhaps an executive order issued by the incoming president to exempt the Delta Queen from the act.
